Minnesota bill offers pizza to reward avid readers

(St. Paul, MN) -- A Minnesota bill would aim to boost literacy rates in the state by offering pizza to students.

The bill is sponsored by Representative María Isa Pérez-Vega (DFL- St. Paul) and would give a one-time $350,000 grant for a two-year startup serving students in the Twin Cities metro. Students who read at least 10 minutes a day and five days a week would get their slices. When they would reach 200 minutes a month, a voucher would be given for a free eight-inch pizza.

A report on the program would is due in the legislature on January 15th, 2027.
