(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota lawmakers today will hear testimony about copper wire thefts.

Last year alone, St. Paul recorded over 2,000 thefts, primarily targeting street lamps. The proposed legislation seeks to tackle the problem by requiring dealers to maintain permanent sales records and mandating annual license renewals for sellers.

The issue persists, with copper wiring fetching high prices on the market, prompting some cities to explore various preventive measures, including the possibility of solar-powered or aluminum wiring fixtures.
