Candidate for Minnesota's District 7 is willing to shut down government to pass border policies

(WDAY Radio) -- A Republican candidate for District 7 is hitting the the current representative from the right.

Steve Boyd spoke on The Flag's What's on your Mind. He criticized Fischbach on her early votes in favor of Ukraine aid,  but based on also what he says were a lack of action in supporting pro-border security policies.

"Are we willing to stand with those down there - the Chip Roy's, the Andy Biggs' - those type of guys that are willing to say 'you know what, we cannot continue to do this while our border is wide open. We are willing to shut down the government for a couple of weeks.'"

For context, Representative Fischbach supported heightened border policy in a 2020 campaign. " I’ll work with President Donald J. Trump to build the border wall, block amnesty, and keep Americans safe!" Additionally, she voted to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas, the Department of Homeland Security Secretary, over allegations of dereliction of duty regarding immigrant encounters at the southern border.

"Our current administration is violating their oath of office by allowing this invasion of illegal and sometimes dangerous immigrants from all over the world. Their reckless actions are endangering the lives and livelihoods of American citizens which they have a duty to protect," wrote Boyd on their campaign website.

Fischback did vote to prevent a government shutdown in September of 2023 under then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Steve Boyd says he has 200 volunteers on his campaign so far, and hopes to secure the 60% of the votes needed to secure the endorsement of the party. You can learn more about Boyd by clicking here.
