U Of M students stage walkout after arrests on campus

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  Students at the University of Minnesota are protesting the arrest of nine people by campus police.

The arrests happened early yesterday after student protesters refused to leave an encampment set up to demand divestment from companies that support Israel.

Hundreds of students walked out of classes in support of the arrested protesters yesterday afternoon.

Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar also came to the campus last night and told the students she was "moved by their bravery and courage."

The university released a statement saying officials respect free speech through lawful protest, but the students were arrested for violating campus policy and state law.
