(Grand Forks, ND) --  A Grand Forks man will serve at least five-years in prison for drug crimes and assaulting a police officer.

The charges stem from an incident that happened in January, when Ernest Gardner began attacking a police officer who was detaining him while a probation officer searched his apartment.  He kicked the officer in the stomach repeatedly, and the search of his apartment turned up meth and fentanyl.

Gardner pleaded guilty.
