Man flees East Grand Forks after shots fired, later arrested in Grand Forks

(Grand Forks, ND) – An East Grand Forks, Minn., shots fired suspect was arrested in Grand Forks after he fled the scene in East Grand Forks.

According to the East Grand Forks Police Department, officers received a report of shots fired in an apartment building in the 400 block of 17th Street NW at around 9 a.m. Sunday. Officers arrived on scene to find no injuries.

Witnesses identified the suspect as Marko D. Ruot, and stated Ruot had fled the scene to East Grand Forks. Officers took statements and collected evidence found at the scene.

Grand Forks Police’s assistance was requested.

Officers with the Grand Forks Police Department and the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Department began to look for the vehicle and it was located a short time later at an apartment complex at 3387 Primrose Ct.

Officers set up a perimeter around the apartment building and attempted to call the suspect but there was no answer.

Eventually the Grand Forks Regional SWAT team was activated along with the Grand Forks Regional Bomb Team, Crisis Negotiations Team and UAS team.

Officers were able to finally contact the male suspect who then complied with their instructions, and he was taken into custody without further incident.

East Grand Forks Police say Ruot is being held at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center, where is awaiting formal charges.
