Judge denies defendant’s request to be released in Feeding Our Future case

(Minneapolis, MN) — A defendant in the federal Feeding Our Future corruption trial is denied a request to be released from jail, pending his sentencing.

Attorneys for Mukhtar Shariff, who was convicted two weeks ago of fraud, argued that he was not a flight risk because he surrendered his passport.

The Burnsville resident also motioned that he has been an American citizen nearly his entire life since he immigrated from Somalia at age five.

U. S. District Judge Nancy Brasel said Shariff still had a motive to flee given his conviction, possible lengthy sentence, and his connections abroad.
