MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) – Safety and security changes could be coming to Moorhead schools in the new year.
District leadership received a comprehensive safety audit report, is reviewing the findings and planning next steps.
The audit, which aims to strengthen safety processes, procedures and facilities, began in July. Director of Emergency Management Steve Moore says a survey was sent out to the public, parents, students and staff. District leaders add the survey is one component of a broader audit.
The review process is expected to continue through mid-January. District leaders expect to share the report and response with the School Board at its Jan. 26, 2026 meeting.
Since September, a student was arrested after police found a gun at the district’s alternative learning center, a knife was found outside the district’s career academy and a student was arrested after 1,500 fentanyl pills were found at Horizon Middle School.
