Summit Carbon Solutions pauses South Dakota permit application

SOUTH DAKOTA – Summit Carbon Solutions wants to suspend its carbon pipeline application in South Dakota.

The company filed a motion this week with the state’s Public Utilities Commission following Governor Larry Rhoden signing a bill into law prohibiting using eminent domain for carbon dioxide pipelines.

Summit says their ability to get survey permission has changed. That can only happen now in South Dakota with landowner approval.

Summit Carbon Solutions says they won’t have enough time to complete their application for a permit.

The company is asking for the proceedings to be paused until it’s ready to move forward.

Summit Carbon Solution’s carbon dioxide pipeline has already gotten permits in Minnesota and North Dakota.
