There’s a push to abolish state income tax in North Dakota

NORTH DAKOTA – Americans For Prosperity is working to abolish state income tax in North Dakota.

Americans For Prosperity North Dakota State Director  Justin Forde believes the state would be able to keep people from moving away and attract people from other states to move to North Dakota. He said the move would lead to people saving more money and improving the state’s economy.

Some are concerned if the Legislature abolishes income taxes that state programs would see cuts.

“I don’t think there would be a lot of cuts because you could figure in some of that economic growth that’s there. There’s obviously the bureaucracy of the number of full-time employees in the Tax Department running this income tax and all the paperwork and all the stuff that goes on with that, so there’s easy things to eliminate there,” Ford said on The Flag.

Nine states including South Dakota don’t have state income taxes.
