NORTH DAKOTA – The North Dakota Highway Patrol responded to several crashes in Cass County during freezing rain conditions during the morning of Tuesday, February 24.
Captain Bryan Niewind said troopers helped respond to crashes involving multiple vehicles between Casselton and Mapleton on Interstate 94. At one point, traffic was stopped.
Troopers also went to the scene of several semis that were jackknifed and vehicles in the ditch north and south of Fargo on Interstate 29.
“People were driving too fast for the conditions. Using cruise control, trying to drive 80 miles per hour on glare ice, those are two really bad combinations,” Niewind explained.
Troopers handed out citations for care required for drivers not being cautious for the conditions and maintaining control of their vehicles. Drivers were also cited for careless driving which is where a driver is doing the same, but speeding.
