U.S. Education Secretary McMahon calls on Governor Tim Walz to resign

WASHINGTON – A high-ranking cabinet member in the Trump administration is calling on Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to resign.

Linda McMahon, who serves as the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, called for the resignation in a letter to the Minnesota governor earlier this week, which was posted to McMahon’s X account.

“You have been Minnesota’s Governor since 2019. During that time, your careless lack of oversight and abuse of the welfare system has attracted fraudsters from around the world, especially from Somalia, to establish a beachhead of criminality in our country,” McMahon’s letter said. “As President Trump put it, you have turned Minnesota into a ‘fraudulent hub of money laundering activity.’

She further went on to note that the U.S. Department of Education was made aware that ‘fraudulent college applications, especially concentrated in Minnesota, were gaming the federal postsecondary education system’ in an effort to collect money intended for ‘young Americans to help them afford college.’

“We call these fraudsters ‘ghost students’ because they were not ID-verified and often did not live in the United States, or they simply did not exist,” McMahon said in her letter.

She ended her letter with a strong message.

“Shame on you, Governor Walz, for allowing this to happen,” McMahon said. “And for benefitting from it.”

She called on Walz to resign to ‘make way for more capable leadership.’

As of Wednesday afternoon, Walz has not responded to McMahon’s letter publicly.
