UPDATE: Minnesota Lottery officials say their Detroit Lakes office was closed in order to open one in Grand Rapids

UPDATE – Minnesota Lottery officials have told Flag Family News that closing their Detroit Lakes office and opening one in Grand Rapids is the most efficient way to support players and retail partners.

“The Grand Rapids location is more centrally located, which will improve accessibility and allow us to better serve our regional retail network,” Minnesota Lottery officials said in an email.

There are no Minnesota Lottery offices in northwestern or southwestern Minnesota, but there will be two offices in northeastern Minnesota in Grand Rapids and Virginia. The cities are about 60 miles apart.

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – The Minnesota Lottery has closed its Detroit Lakes office.

“We have appreciated the opportunity to serve the area communities and look forward to continuing to serve you at our various lottery retailers and regional offices,” Minnesota Lottery officials wrote on social media.

Winnings up to $599 can be claimed at any lottery retailer or by mail. Prizes between $600 and $50,000 can be claimed at lottery offices. The closest to Detroit Lakes is 200 miles away in Roseville. Others include Owatonna and Virginia. Prizes of more than $50,000 must be claimed at the Roseville office.

Flag Family News reached out to Minnesota Lottery officials to ask why the office was closed, but we didn’t immediately hear back.
