(ST. PAUL, MINN) – Commercial scuba divers working in Minnesota lakes now have safety requirements through legislation signed by Governor Tim Walz.
The legislation, titled the Brady Aune and Joseph Anderson Safety Act, establishes the requirements for aquatic plant management companies whose employees use scuba gear. The bill follows the deaths of Aune and Anderson, who drowned while working in lakes using scuba gear without proper training.
It includes additional occupational safety and health requirements and that any diver be scuba certified, along with requiring certain equipment and a standby diver.
