West Fargo completes six-year utility map update project

WEST FARGO, N.D. – A project that has taken six years is complete and will lead to efficiencies across the City of West Fargo.

The city’s Engineering Department has updated all of the city’s utility maps.

“Before we started the project, our utility maps were missing a lot of information or we had a lot of misinformation as far as placement of where things are,” Right-of-Way manager Benji Schwartz said.

More than 15,000 water points, 10,000 storm water points and 4,000 sanitary sewer points were located through the project.

“Say you had a water main break, or a water line break, at your home, our crews are going to be able to use our new data to find the break and the other utilities a lot faster, Schwartz said.

The upgrade eliminated outsourcing costs and will improve response times to issues like water main breaks.
