FARGO, N.D. – The Fargo Police Department is looking to beef up its technology it uses to combat and solves crimes daily in Fargo.
Chief David Zibolski is set to present a request to the Fargo City Commission on Monday that includes a renewal of the AXON technology that the City of Fargo currently uses. This technology includes body-worn cameras, in-car video systems, tasers and other techonology.
Among the upgrades Zibolski is asking for is a drone.
According to the request from Zibolski, the Drone as First Responder, or DFR, Program would seamlessly integrate with the department’s current AXON technology system.
It also includes many features that would aid the department.
One of the top features would allow for faster response times and better initial assessment. The drone could arrive on the scene minutes before officers do, and would provide ‘live visual intel on hazards, number of people involved, weapons, medical needs and scene layout.’ Zibolski said this would help officers make plans.
It would also improve officer and public safety, among other features.
A proposed 10-year renewal would cost roughly $13.3 million dollars
