Baesler Lauds Cass County National School Safety Award

State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler is praising the school protection efforts of the Cass County sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office is getting an award this week from the National Association of School Resource
Officers. The award says Cass County provides a good national example of school safety.

The Cass County sheriff’s office has four school resource deputies assigned to five rural school districts – Kindred, Mapleton, Central Cass, Northern Cass and Maple Valley.

Baesler says one possible strategy for improving school safety is to have more resource officers in North Dakota schools. She says the Cass County sheriff’s office provides a great example of how to provide the service.

Baesler and a group of school and law enforcement representatives are exploring proposals to make North Dakota’s schools more secure. The group will be holding community forums across the state later this year.
