On Monday, the league office announced fifth year goaltender Drew DeRidder as the NCHC Goaltender of the Week. He helped the University of North Dakota secure five out of a possible six points at No. 17 Western Michigan over the weekend.
Friday night, he saved 26-of-28 shots in a 2-2 tie that the Fighting Hawks would ultimately end up winning in a shootout. 10 of those saves came during UND’s perfect 6-for-6 penalty kill on the night.
The Fenton, Mich., native followed up that performance with a 25 save shutout in UND’s 3-0 victory on Saturday evening. This was his second shutout of the season and his sixth of his collegiate career.
Over the weekend, DeRidder posted a 0.96 goals against average and a .962 save percentage against what was at the time the nation’s top-scoring offense.
North Dakota will now have a break in game action thru Christmas, returning to the ice for an exhibition matchup against the U.S. UNDER-18 team on Saturday, Dec. 31 in Grand Forks.
