Boy, have things changed! The recent snowfall has really complicated the travel on the ice making for tricky conditions. We are fortunate to have a good ice base of around 12 inches which should hold up fairly well especially with the extreme cold temperatures that are forecasted for this next week. Any slush issues should heal up with the colder temperatures.
It looks like the remainder of the ice season is going to be a snowmobile affair as this mode of transportation is most effective with tons of snow. In Lake's Country, the plowed roads on the ice are few, meaning you are basically on your own for ice travel.
I always like some sort of snow cover on the ice especially when angling for walleyes. The snow cover creates a darker atmosphere under the ice making the walleyes much more active. It doesn't matter if it's cloudy or sunny because the snow cover makes every day cloudy under the ice.
Keep in mind with this new snow cover, you might not be able to see any heaves or cracks because they will be hidden under this new snow. Travel safe and always have a wingman for safety sake.
Fishing at this time is still holding up well, now it's all about getting to where you want to go!
