For the first time in program history the MSUM Dragon Men’s Basketball Team is on top of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Poll as the No. 1 ranked team in the country!
Before this season MSUM’s highest national ranking was No. 3, which they achieved in the 2014-15 season. The Dragon Men’s Basketball team is the third MSUM team to earn a No. 1 ranking joining the 1981 football team and 1964 wrestling team.
This week they earned 399 points in the poll including receiving 15 of the 16 first place votes. No. 2 Minnesota State Mankato received the other top ranking vote. Minot State and Minnesota Duluth are also receiving votes in this week's top 25 poll.
MSUM is currently 14-0 on the season and 8-0 in NSIC play. Including the NAIA days, the Dragons best start in school history is 15-0 which was achieved by the 1970-71 team. The school record for consecutive wins is currently 16 games, set by the 2015-16 team.
They will host Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday night with the tip set for 5:30 p.m. at Nemzek Fieldhouse. Additionally, the Dragons will host the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. with game coverage available on The Flag (AM 1100/FM 92.3) with the pregame starting at 3 p.m.
