(Casselton, ND) – A 56-year-old Florida man escaped injuries in a vehicle-property crash Tuesday afternoon on I-94 in Cass County.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, at just after 2 p.m. Tuesday, a 2000 Peterbilt semi-truck, pulling an empty cattle hauler trailer, was westbound when it left the roadway, entering the north ditch.
When entering the ditch, the semi-truck’s trailer jack-knifed, separating from the semi-truck. The crash resulted in approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel to be released along the north ditch on I-94.
Hazmat containment measures were done by Casselton and Fargo Fire departments to contain the fuel from spreading into the surrounding waterways.
I-94 westbound traffic was reduced to a single lane for approximately two hours while emergency crews removed the semi-truck and investigated the crash.
The driver, Scott Pettingill, Trinity, Fl., was not injured and has been charged with driving under suspension, a log book violation and care required.
