Outdoors Angle: The Snow Has Changed Everything!

The Flag Outdoors Expert Steve Carney has your weekly Outdoors Angle right here!

Well now, isn't this fun! The recent series of snow falls has completely changed the ice fishing game. In a matter of days our ATV's are rendered useless and driving a vehicle on the ice isn't a good idea. I feel for anybody with a wheelhouse as access to most lakes will be dicey at best.

I have seen this scenario played out over the decades and it looks like it is going to be a snowmobile and portable affair the rest of the ice fishing season. Unfortunately this will keep a lot of anglers home because this recent snow will make even walking out a challenge.

Right now I am thinking about rescuing my skid house on a midlake spot and possibly I might need a Huey helicopter to retrieve it. Many hard house anglers are also facing this dilemma.

It's too bad about the snow because the fishing has been excellent for all species. The crappies and bluegills are still shallow as are the walleyes. I have not fished any deeper than 8 feet for all species and it pains me that I might have trouble even accessing shoreline areas.

Anyway, we keep forging ahead and try and make the best of what we have left for angling through January. No more snow please!
