Twins drop series finale in Miami

The Minnesota Twins fell in their series rubber match at the Miami Marlins 5-2 Wednesday afternoon.

Miami’s Jorge Soler dominated at the plate for the Marlins hitting two home runs and driving in four runs. Bryan De La Cruz drove in Miami’s other run.

Minnesota struggled from the plate again today, striking out 12 times as a team while only drawing a pair of walks. Trevor Larnach was the lone Twin to drive in a run. Kyle Farmer scored Minnesota’s second run on a ninth inning wild pitch.

Both teams had outstanding performances from their starting pitchers. Minnesota’s Pablo Lopez tossed seven innings with eight strikeouts, while giving up only one run in his return to Miami. The Marlins’ starter, Jesus Luzardo was just as impressive throwing seven innings with 10 strikeouts. Luzardo also only gave up one run.

The Twins will return home to Target Field for their 2023 home opener beginning on Friday afternoon. They will host the reigning World Series champion Houston Astros for a three game series with first pitch slated for 3:10 p.m. Sonny Gray is scheduled to be on the mound for Minnesota.
