Wild blitz Blackhawks in the third period en route to the victory

On Monday evening the Minnesota Wild visited the Chicago Blackhawks for the fourth and final time this season. The Wild would win 4-2, taking the season series sweep 4-0.

Matt Boldy began the scoring at the 12:32 mark of the first period, his 31st goal of the season. Chicago’s Joey Anderson would retaliate with a goal 18:11 into the opening period.

In the second period Anders Bjork scored 2:23 into the period, giving the Blackhawks a 2-1 lead. The score would stay that way into the second period intermission.

Minnesota would put the pressure on Chicago in the third period. Marcus Johansson scored his first of two goals at the 14:00 mark, knotting the game at 2-2.Then 16:47 into the period Johansson struck again to give the Wild a 3-2 lead. Minutes later Gustav Nyquist put the final nail in the coffin with an empty net goal at the 18:59 mark with Minnesota extending its lead to 4-2.

Filip Gustavsson was solid all night saving 40 of the 42 shots he faced in the victory.

The Wild are returning home to host the Winnipeg Jets tonight with puck drop slated for 7 p.m.

 

Minnesota trails both Colorado and Dallas in the Central Division standings with a pair of games remaining in the regular season.
