Wild fall to Predators in overtime to wrap up regular season

The Minnesota Wild concluded the 2022-23 regular season with a 4-3 overtime loss at the Nashville Predators.

Filip Gustavsson saved 27 of the 31 shots he faced in the loss.

In the first period Nashville began the scoring with Mark Jankowski finding the back of the net at the 8:02 mark of the opening period. Minnesota would counter with a Freddy Gaudreau goal at 14:19 of the period. The Predators would get the final goal of the period at the 16:19 mark, complementary of Kiefer Sherwood. After one period of play Nashville led 2-1.

In the second period Freddy Gaudreau beat Juuse Saros for the second time, tying the game at 2-2 with 10:46 to go in the period.

The third period saw both teams take a punch, beginning with Yakov Trenin’s goal at the 14:04 mark, giving Nashville the 3-2 lead. 16 seconds later Nic Petan scored his first goal of the season, tying the game up again, this time at 3-3. Neither team would score the remainder of the period sending the game to overtime.

Midway through the overtime period the game would come to an end. Nashville’s Juuso Parssinen scored the game-winning goal at 2:44 of the overtime period. Predators win 4-3.

The Wild will now await to find out who their opponent will be in the best-of-7 Western Conference Quarterfinals. They will either play the Colorado Avalanche or Dallas Stars. Regardless of the opponent the Wild will be on the road for Game 1 of the series.
