(Minneapolis, MN) -- Twins pitcher Tyler Mahle will miss the rest of the 2023 season.

Manager Rocco Baldelli told reporters Thursday that Mahle's recent elbow injury will require Tommy John surgery. The Twins originally shut Mahle down for a month in late April due to a setback with his ulnar collateral ligament, but he was moved to the 60-day injured list earlier this week.

Mahle will have the surgery within the next two weeks and it will sideline him through the start of the 2024 season. The 28-year-old was 1-2 with a 3.16 ERA in five starts this season.
