Twins fall short against Dodgers

The Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers squared off in their series finale on Wednesday afternoon.

Sonny Gray pitched four innings with four strikeouts that included giving up two runs in a no decision. Jose De Leon tossed 1 ⅔ innings but gave up two runs and was tagged with the loss.

Freddy Freeman began the scoring with a third inning sacrifice fly for the Dodgers. Minnesota’s Byron Buxton countered with a 412 foot solo home run in the fourth inning, tying the game a 1-1. In the bottom half of the inning Mookie Betts hit an RBI single, giving the Dodgers the 2-1 lead.

Joey Gallo hit a 433 foot solo home run to tie the game in the sixth inning, his 10th long ball of the season. Willi Castro then scored in the seventh inning on a throwing error, Minnesota leads 3-2. In the bottom half of the inning Miguel Vargas tied the game at 3 apiece with an RBI walk. Later in the inning James Ouman broke the game open with a grand slam. The Dodgers lead 7-3 and that would remain the score to the finish line.

The Twins will have an off day on Thursday before beginning a weekend series at the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night beginning at 8:38 p.m. Joe Ryan is slated to get the nod for Minnesota.
