(New York, NY) -- Cord-cutters could one day have access to ESPN without a cable subscription.

The Wall Street Journal reports Disney and ESPN are laying the groundwork to offer the channel as a standalone streaming service. Sources tell the outlet the project is being developed under the code name "Flagship" and that there's no set timeline for the shift to happen. ESPN would still be available as a TV channel through cable providers.

The sports network launched its ESPN-Plus streaming platform in 2018 and currently has over 25-million subscribers.
