(Cincinnati, OH) -- The Twins dropped their series opener against the Reds 7-3 in Cincinnati.

Joe Ryan was charged with his tenth loss after surrendering four runs in five innings. Royce Lewis and Alex Kirilloff both homered, but the Twins never led during the contest. To make matters worse, Carlos Correa left before the second inning after re-injuring the plantar fasciitis injury in his left foot. The Twins still have a seven-game lead over the Guardians for first place in the AL Central at 79-72, and their magic number dropped to five after Cleveland lost to Kansas City.

Kenta Maeda starts for Minnesota against Cincinnati tonight.

In other team news, manager Rocco Baldelli's wife gave birth to twins yesterday.
