Roehl leaving NDSU for Tennessee State

(Fargo, N.D.) -- After an 11-year coaching tenure at North Dakota State, associate head coach and offensive coordinator, Tyler Roehl, is departing for Tennessee State University.

Tigers football head coach, Eddie George, has appointed Roehl as the program's next associate head coach and offensive coordinator.

Roehl’s time at NDSU began during his time playing running back from 2004-08. He is the eighth leading rusher in program history with 2,512 yards. Roehl was a 2007 Sports Network and Associated Press second team All-American. During that 2007 season he tallied 207 carries for 1,431 yards and 21 touchdowns.

After his playing days Roehl began his coaching career at Concordia College (Minn.) as a running backs coach in 2010. Then in 2011 joined the Bison as an offensive assistant. In 2012-13 he coached at Moorhead High, serving as the team's defensive coordinator and running backs coach. Roehl would return to NDSU in 2014 where he would spend the next decade coaching the tight ends and fullbacks along with serving as the offensive coordinator over the past five seasons.

With Roehl at OC the Bison made three trips to Frisco to compete in the FCS National Championship Game, winning titles in 2019 and 2021. Additionally, NDSU led the nation in rushing three consecutive seasons under his watch. Roehl coaches five FCS All-Americans while with the Bison, including 11 players who combined for 15 all conference (first or second team) honors.

Tennessee State finished the 2023 season with a 6-5 overall record and a 2-4 record in Ohio Valley play. This marked the Tigers’ first winning season since 2017. Roehl will serve alongside head coach Eddie George who is entering his fourth season at the helm and has a current record of 15-18 with the Tennessee State.
