On Sunday, February 8, the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 to claim the franchises second Super Bowl championship.
Former North Dakota State offensive linemen Grey Zabel and Jalen Sundell started on the Seahawks’ offensive line. Zabel was the left guard while Sundell played center.
Seattle running back Kenneth Walker had 27 carries for 135 yards along with two catches for 26 yards en route to being named the game’s MVP. Sam Darnold completed 19-of-38 passes for 202 yards and one touchdown. Darnold DID NOT commit a turnover this postseason in three games. Cooper Kupp led the Seattle receiving core with six receptions for 61 yards while A.J. Barner has four receptions for 54 yards and one touchdown.
The Seahawks were led defensively by Ernest Jones IV’s 11 tackles. Julian Love and Uchenna Nwosu each intercepted a pass while Byron Murphy II recovered a fumble. Seattle forced three turnovers in the win.
This was Seattle’s fourth Super Bowl appearance as they improved to 2-2 in the big game. The Seahawks lost SB XL (February 5, 2006) to Pittsburgh 21-10, defeated Denver 43-8 in SB XLVIII (February 2, 2014), fell to New England 28-24 in SB XLIX (February 1, 2015), and now defeated the Patriots in SB LX on Sunday night.
Drake Maye completed 27-of-43 passes for two touchdowns and two interceptions. He added five carries for 37 yards. Maye also lost one fumble, finishing the game with three turnovers. Mack Hollins led the New England receiving core with four receptions for 78 yards and one touchdown, while DeMario Douglas caught five passes for 45 yards, and Rhamondre Stevenson hauled in five receptions for 40 yards and one touchdown.
New England fell to 6-6 in the franchises 12 Super Bowl appearances with the loss.
