Twins surrender 13 runs in loss to Royals

The Minnesota Twins pitching was knocked around in a 13-9 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night. The Twins gave up runs in five different innings, including seven in the sixth inning.

Joe Ryan gave up five runs over four innings and was tagged with the loss. Cody Laweryson surrendered four runs (three earned) over 1 ⅓ innings out of the bullpen. Zak Kent also gave up four runs (one earned) over 1 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. Anthony Banda tossed a scoreless inning.

Josh Bell paced the Twins’ offense with his first home run of the season along with driving in three runs. Austin Martin and Luke Keaschall added two RBI apiece. Victor Caratini and Brooks Lee each chipped in an RBI.

Minnesota fell to 1-4 on the season. The Twins will look to avoid being swept on Thursday afternoon with first pitch at 1:10 p.m. and game coverage available on Twins.TV. Taj Bradley is scheduled to get the nod for Minnesota.
