West Fargo High hires Eric Peterson as next head varsity football coach

West Fargo, N.D. – West Fargo High has hired its next head coach of the varsity football program. Activities Director, Justin Behm, has announced Eric Peterson as the program’s next varsity football head coach.

Peterson, a Fargo Davies graduate, has spent the past eight seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater while also serving as the defensive coordinator the past four seasons. He also helped lead the Eagles to the program’s second state championship in the 2025 season. His defense gave opponents fits, only allowing 18.5 points per game en route to the title run.

“Coach Peterson brings a deep knowledge of the game, strong leadership qualities, and a genuine commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the field,” said Justin Behm, Activities Director. “His experience coordinating successful defenses and his ability to connect with student-athletes made him stand out throughout the hiring process. We are excited for him to lead our football program into the future.”

He played collegiately at Northern State in Aberdeen, SD where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Peterson later earned a Master’s degree from Winona State. He is a social studies teacher at Fargo Davies.

Peterson has built a reputation of developing discipled, physical defenses. He looks to continue building a culture of accountability, toughness, and pride within the football program at West Fargo High.
