Luther Family Ford Salute to Law Enforcement

April 2026 – Investigator Heidi Witzel of the Fargo Police Department

Investigator Heidi Witzel began her law enforcement career in 2014 with the Towner County Sheriff’s Office, followed by service with the Cavalier County Sheriff’s Office, before joining The Fargo Police Department in May 2017.

She spent several years in patrol working all shifts, primarily nights, where she also served as an Intoxilyzer operator. In 2019, Witzel became a Police Training Officer, helping train approximately 12 new officers, and continues to serve on the Board of Evaluators. She is also certified in Crisis Intervention and as a Crime Scene Investigator.

In August 2024, Witzel joined the Criminal Investigations Division as an investigator on the Adult Violent Crimes Team, where she quickly made an impact. Early in her assignment, she served as case agent on a homicide investigation that initially had no clear suspects. Through proactive follow-up and strong interview skills, she ultimately helped secure a confession and identify a second suspect, leading to arrests.

She has continued to demonstrate strong investigative instincts in other complex cases, including a downtown stabbing where she helped identify a suspect despite limited video evidence, and a major theft case initially reported as a robbery that resulted in a felony arrest after she put in the extensive work to uncover what truly happened.

Beyond her investigative work, Witzel is known for her compassion and professionalism when working with victims and families, particularly in sensitive death investigations.

Witzel is widely respected for her strong work ethic, attention to detail and commitment to seeking justice. She is an outstanding investigator, teammate and an asset to our team at The Fargo Police Department.
