NDGOP reacts to former state legislator’s guilty plea in federal court

(BISMARCK) – Following former North Dakota State Senator Ray Holmberg’s guilty plea in US District Court in Fargo on Thursday, North Dakota Republican Party Chairwoman Sandra Sanford has issued a statement.

“The North Dakota Republican Party is committed to upholding high ethical standards,” Sanford said. “Ray Holmberg’s actions are a gross violation of the trust placed in him by his constituents and the principals of our Party. We are dedicated to ensuring that justice is served and that such behavior is never tolerated within our ranks. I pray for the victims of his deviant behavior.”

Sanford said she echoed other calls to hold Holmberg in custody until his trial, following the news of his parole violations.

Holmberg, a Republican, was a member of the North Dakota State Senate, representing District 17, from December 1, 1976 until his resignation on June 1, 2022. He had served as both the appropriations committee and legislative management committee chairman; chairman of the rules committee; and on the interim budget section.
