South Fargo fire threatens nearby home

(FARGO) – On Sunday at 4:32 p.m., the Fargo Fire Department was dispatched to 1738 50th Ave. S. for a report of a structure fire. The caller reported that the curtains in the basement bedroom were on fire.

Two people were home at the time of the fire, and both escaped without injury before the fire department’s arrival. When the first fire units arrived on scene, they reported heavy fire coming from the backside of the house through a lower-level window. The home had vinyl siding which caught on fire, allowing the fire to move up the outside of the house and into the attic of both homes. The initial unit suffered significant damage. The adjoined home had no fire damage in the living area but had considerable damage in the attic space.  A second structure in a neighboring yard also had siding damage due to the radiant heat from the fire.

Although firefighters had the fire under control in 15 minutes, a second alarm was called for additional resources. In total, the fire department responded with five engines, one truck company, two command vehicles and one fire investigator. The fire department received assistance from The Fargo Police Department, who evacuated the neighbors from the adjoining home. Sanford Ambulance, the Salvation Army and the Red Cross also assisted on the fire scene.

At this time, damage estimates are still being assessed.
