Statewide measure on Congressional age limits passes

(STATEWIDE) – North Dakota voters have spoken, and they are largely in favor of Congressional candidate age limits.

The measure, led by Jared Hendrix, states that “no person may be elected or appointed to serve a term or a portion of a term representing North Dakota in the U.S. Senate or the U.S. House of Representatives if that person could be 81 years old by December 31 of the year immediately preceding the end of the term.”

The measure passed overwhelmingly, with nearly 61 percent of North Dakotans, who voted, voting for the measure.

“A large majority of North Dakotans made it clear that they think members of Congress should retire, like everyone else,” Hendrix said in a statement to WDAY Radio. “On the heels of a successful Term Limits Measure, this is another firm statement from North Dakota voters that they’re tired of career politicians that stay in office forever and lose touch with their constituencies. We’re very hopeful that this win will force a broader discussion in other states and across the country!”
