Summer Heat Building Into This Weekend

It seems like the entire United States has been hot except for the upper Northern Plains. Now summer heat looks to build into the region, at least for a couple of days.

Western US Heat will inch closer into areas of the Plains over this week and build over the Northern Plains as we head towards the end of this week and into the weekend. Temperatures will range across the area from the mid/upper 80s to low 100s with humid conditions producing heat indexes in the 90s and 100s.

By this weekend, expect day to day warming and increasing humidity values to dew points in the lower 70s. The heat indexes will rise into the 90s to near 100. Cooler Canadian air looks to snip off the heat in Minnesota and Eastern North Dakota to start next week, with more heat building out west. We will likely see this trend of a few days of hot weather and relief for a couple more days over the next couple of weeks.

Here is the current estimated heat index around 4:00 pm Central Time on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from the 7/9/24 12z Euro model.
