(SAINT PAUL) — A suspicious package sent to Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon’s office has been determined to have contained a nonhazardous white powdered substance. The Secretary of State’s office confirmed the finding in a press release Saturday.
The substance was tested by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). MDH is continuing to run additional tests. The FBI, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the Minnesota State Patrol are actively investigating.
“Fear and intimidation of election workers will not be tolerated. New laws enacted in 2023 make it very clear that it is a crime to intimidate election workers and interfere with the administration of an election,” Simon said. “Our focus remains on delivering a free, fair, accurate, and secure election for Minnesotans.”
