Clipper train about ready to pull into the area with snow and colder weather

We’ve been spoiled for the start of January with temps remaining well above normal….BUT….that is about to change for the 2nd half of the month.  Our upper air winds will be coming out of Canada for the 2nd half of the month and that will bring numerous “clipper” snow events along with much colder weather.

Here’s a look at snowfall potential over the next 10 days from our various models:

snow
ECMWF snow… credit pivotal weather
snow
ECMWFAI snow credit: pivotal weather
snow
GFS snow credit pivotal weather

As you can see around 3-6″ of snow TOTAL over the next 10 days.  Not a LOT of snowfall but with the wind with each clipper system, blowing snow will be an issue with a few of those clipper systems later next week.   If you are a SNOW LOVER and you want some good powder, head east into the UP of Michigan where they have a BIG snowpack.  Great for snowmobiling and skiing.
