Messy storm with blizzard conditions for some

It’s that most wonderful time of the year. Where the storms are a brewing and  road crews are working to keep the roads CLEAR….tis the most wonderful time of the year!!!

Road conditions this morning are ALREADY treacherous to the west of the Valley due to freezing rain with no travel advised:

icy

Ok, sorry I just had to put my own spin on that holiday song.  We have a pretty potent clipper system moving our way.  We will see a wintry mix push in from the west this morning with snow/sleet and some freezing rain.  It looks like the northern valley and into NW Minnesota will see ALL snow and likely near blizzard conditions by later today.  Travel is NOT recommended north of the F/M area later this afternoon/evening.   Here’s a look at expected snowfall across the area:

snow

Now, some of those predictions by the models of 10+” in NW Minnesota may be a bit high but you get the idea.   Around 2-5″ around the F/M area with mostly rain from Jamestown through Wahpeton.  Winds will be out of the SE most of the day around 15-30/gusty then switch to the NW after 5pm and increase 25-45/gusting up to 50mph.

Here’s a timeline of the storm for the F/M area

8-9am: Snow/sleet spread into the Valley

10am:   Snow N. Valley–snow/sleet spreading east into Lakes country with mostly snow east and north of the F/M area

Noon:  Slippery travel with snow/sleet and freezing rain.  Mainly rain along and south of a Jamestown-Wahpeton line

4pm:  Precip tapers off a bit in the F/M area while snow continues north

6pm:  Snow and NW winds increase 25-35

8pm:  Snow and wind.  NW winds 30-45/gusty
