Northern lights, light snow, DANGEROUS COLD

A HUGE solar flare just hit the Earth’s atmosphere overnight into early this morning producing some BEAUTIFUL northern lights!  Here’s a beauty from Audubon MN at the DW Alpaca Ranch:

More northern lights are possible over the next few nights, BUT, unfortunately our cloud cover will prohibit us from seeing them.  However, here are a few links to track when the northern lights may be visible:

Planetary K-index | NOAA / NWS Space Weather Prediction Center

These sites will let you know when the best chance will be to view the northern lights.

Now we turn our attention to the coldest air of the season which is about to descend on the area.  Check out some of these wind chill forecasts for Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings:

-40 to -50 below wind chills!!!!   You can get frostbite within a matter of MINUTES if you are outdoors with any exposed skin:

For our snow lovers, unfortunately, there isn’t much snow in the forecast with this bitterly cold air.   We will see a weak clipper bringing some snow showers on Wednesday:

We will see winds increase on Wednesday afternoon so what little snow we do receive will be blowing around for your evening commute.
