Tax credit for electric vehicles could be eliminated under ND Senator's plan

(WDAY Radio) -- Buying an electric vehicle could become more expensive for North Dakotans.  

Senator John Hoeven has introduced a measure that would cut off some of the tax benefits currently offered for those buying EVs and charging stations. Hoeven says those tax subsidies are "distorting the auto market and giving assistance to those who don't need it". Right now, a $7,500 credit gets taken off the purchase price of new electric vehicles at the dealership.  

He says the legislation will provide greater choice and lower costs for consumers, no matter what type of car they want to drive.
