SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The bonding bill passed by the Minnesota Legislature includes $10 million for the Fargo-Moorhead Diversion.
If it’s signed into law by Governor Tim Walz, the Diversion Authority said the money will be used for stormwater lift station improvements in Moorhead and other flood mitigation projects in Clay and Wilkin counties.
Because of $100 million from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ underspend on bids, the Diversion Authority Board has authorized a 50/50 match for any funding from the Legislature.
“I want to sincerely thank State Sen. Rob Kupec as well as State Reps. Heather Keeler and Jim Joy for their tireless efforts in helping secure this funding as part of the Bonding Bill,” Metro Flood Diversion Authority Executive Director Jason Benson said. “Their work will help protect Clay County residents and, once FEMA remaps the floodplain, allow them to drop flood insurance premiums.”
Work is expected to begin this year on these projects.
