Armstrong, Strinden attend Memorial Day services

STATEWIDE – North Dakota Governor Kelly Armstrong and Lieutenant Governor Michelle Strinden paid tribute to the nation’s military heroes Monday at ceremonies near Mandan and Harwood.

Striden attended a ceremony at the Fargo National Cemetery, while Armstrong attended the ceremony at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery near Mandan. Both praised the members’ service and sacrifice ahead of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence’s signing on July 4, 1776.

“We honor those heroes and remember our solemn obligation to support our veterans, care for military families and teach the next generation what service, courage and patriotism truly mean,” Armstrong said.

Strinden said the story of America ‘has always been written by ordinary citizens willing to do extraordinary things in defense of their country.’

Today, we remember the Americans who stood against tyranny, terror and oppression throughout those 250 years,” she said. “They answered the call not because it was easy, but because they believed some things are worth defending.”
