National Weather Service issues winter advisories

 

The National Weather Service in Grand Forks, in anticipation for the possible winter weather this week into weekend, has issued multiple advisories.

According to the National Weather Service office, a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for far northcentral North Dakota, including the cities of Mohall, Glenburn, Sherwood, and Bottineau, from 1 p.m. this afternoon until 7 a.m. on Friday morning. Following the Winter Weather Advisory, a Winter Storm Watch will be in effect for the Renville County area until Saturday morning. Total snow accumulations of three to five inches, with locally higher amounts possible during the advisory time. Winds are anticipated to gust to as high as 35 miles per hour.

When the Winter Storm Watch takes over, heavy snow is possible. Total snow accumulations could exceed eight inches, with wind gusts as high as 55 miles per hour, which could create blizzard conditions.

For the Red River Valley, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect beginning Thursday afternoon into Saturday. Snow totals in the Red River Valley are anticipated to be in the two to six inch range, according to the National Weather Service.
