Heitkamp Announces Federal Funding to Bolster Victim Services in North Dakota

U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today announced two federal grants totaling over $8,230,751 to the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to make sure North Dakotans who have been victims of a crime are fairly compensated and have services afforded to them.

“As the former North Dakota Attorney General, I understand it’s important that all North Dakotans who are victims of crimes receive the attention, respect, and services that the law calls for,” said Heitkamp. “When the criminal justice systems works, justice is served, and those who are impacted by crimes are fairly compensated. These federal funds will support the North Dakota Department of Corrections work to provide services and compensation to eligible victims across the state.”

The federal funds are as follows:

  • $8,068,751 in federal funds through the Victims of Crime Act’s Crime Victims Fund to make sure crime victim services operate as needed.
  • $162,000 in federal funds through the Victims of Crime Act’s Crime Victims Fun to make sure compensation is made to eligible North Dakotans who have experienced a crime.

These federal funds are made available through the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs.
