The spread of COVID-19 across the United States continues, and now it has hit employees of the United States Postal Service.

In a statement to WZFG News, James Boxrud, spokesman for the United States Postal Service, confirmed the news, saying, “The U.S. Postal Service has learned that two of our Fargo, ND employees recently tested positive for the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).” He says the Postal Service, which has more than 600,000 employees across the United States, has since followed the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the North Dakota Health Department.

“Thanks to our social distancing policy, we believe exposure risk to other employees or the public is minimal,” Boxrud says.

It is unknown whether or not the employees are letter carriers, as Boxrud says Federal law prohibits him from providing information on individual employees.

The CDC, World Health Organization and Surgeon General all have indicated that there is no evidence that COVID-19, a potentially deadly disease, is being spread through the mail.
