Heitkamp Statement on NAFTA Renegotiation Progress with Mexico

U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today issued the following statement after the White House announced progress on talks between the U.S. and Mexico in the renegotiation of NAFTA.

“Putting an end to the uncertainty caused by the NAFTA renegotiation is critical for North Dakota’s economy, so any progress toward a deal is welcome news,” Heitkamp said. “As North Dakota’s top trading partner, Canada’s inclusion in the final deal is key to protecting jobs, farmers, and local economies in our state. For North Dakota to succeed, Canada must be part of any deal. The administration should work to resolve the remaining issues with Canada and Mexico and meet the stated goal of announcing the framework of a final agreement by the end of the week.”
