Greater Grand Forks Fair cancelled, races on hold at River Cities and Forks Karting Speedways

The Grand Forks County Commission voted Tuesday night to halt two of the Grand Forks County Fairgrounds’ largest events, citing concerns over the continuing raising of COVID-19 in Grand Forks County.

The County Commission voted unanimously to cancel this year’s Greater Grand Forks Fair. County Commissioner David Engen told fellow commissioners that holding the fair “is not something that can be done at this time.”

The Greater Grand Forks Fair was scheduled to be held starting June 17 on the Grand Forks County Fairgrounds, located in north Grand Forks.

In addition, Commissioner Tom Falck made a motion to not commence events at either the River Cities Speedway, or the Forks Karting Association track, until a plan is in place to address safety issues relating to COVID-19. Once the plan is in place, the Grand Forks County Commission will address the situation, based on testing numbers and data related to COVID-19 for safety purposes.

In a third motion, commissioners moved that all events held on the fairgrounds would need to be run through the Grand Forks County Commission for permission, prior to holding an event there.
